Why use a Head Hunter?

< Go to articles list

Undoubtedly the most effective method of filling those key and specialised positions within your organisation, the Search (or Head Hunt) process is complex and thorough.

The head hunter aims to deliver a choice of suitable candidates, even when those individuals are not in the habit of studying the ‘jobs pages’ in the press. Of course, the best people rarely do go looking, they are too busy and motivated.

So, when to use a head hunter?

“A job advert works doesn’t it? And if it doesn’t, well that simply reflects the lack of enterprise in employees today”

The truth of that is obviously that ‘job adverts sometimes work’. When your ideal candidate is not busy or not on holiday, then he might read your advert. Often he/she doesn’t. In which case it is better to go and find that ideal individual and not wait for him/her to find you. Head hunters do that.

More important is WHEN to use one of these people, and why. Ask yourself, as a potential employer, if any of these criteria apply to the situation in your organisation:

  • Does the role concerned require specialist knowledge or skills?
  • Is there a shortage of such individuals and skills?
  • Have you tried the more conventional methods of finding your ideal candidate, and failed?
  • Do you need to do this confidentially and quietly?
  • Do you want someone with a successful track record (for example, usually the only reliable criteria in a sales position)?
  • Would you like to rescue (steal) some of the good people within your competitors (or customers’/suppliers’) businesses?
  • Are you and your organisation limited as to how much time you can spare to such an all important project?

There are other reasons, but these are a few of why it pays to bring in a specialist ‘Search’ consultant to help in what is one of the most important investments your company will make.

“If the person you want exists – we’ll find them”
